WhatsApp launches Payment feature in Brazil
Facebook-owned WhatsApp has finally launched payment feature after a month of testing. Brazil is the first country to get WhatsApp payment feature. The payment on WhatsApp will be done using Facebook Pay, which was launched last year.
The payment service from WhatsApp is free for consumers but the business will need to pay 3.99% processing fee to receive payments. For the security, it is mandatory to set a six digit PIN or fingerprint to complete the transaction. Users can link their Visa or Mastercard debit or credit card from Banco do Brasil, Nubank, and Sicredi. WhatsApp is also working to add Ceilo, a payment processor.
In that blog post, WhatsApp has not mentioned any rollout date for the Payment service in India. The blog post ends with the words saying “We look forward to bringing it to everyone as we go forward”. WhatsApp has been testing the payment feature in India for months and the service is yet to be launched. We’ll keep you posted for all the future updates.
