The long wait is over for Galaxy S21 FE users — Samsung has finally started rolling out the Android 16–based One UI 8 update. This marks the fourth major OS upgrade for the popular Fan Edition smartphone, bringing a wave of new features, optimizations, and the latest security patch.
One UI 8 finally arrives for Galaxy S21 FE
The One UI 8.0 update for the Galaxy S21 FE is currently live in Thailand and Vietnam. It carries the firmware version G990EXXUIHYJ2 and comes with a hefty download size of over 2GB, so Wi-Fi is recommended when downloading the package. The package also includes the September 2025 security patch, enhancing the phone’s stability and protection against vulnerabilities.

While the One UI 8 update for Galaxy S21 FE is currently limited to select regions, its expansion shouldn’t take long. Keep an eye out at the notification panel for an update notification. You can manually check for updates by heading to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Once downloaded, tap Install now, and the phone will restart to complete the process.
One UI 8 marks the final major OS update
The Galaxy S21 FE debuted in early 2022 with Android 12 (One UI 4). Since then, Samsung has delivered Android 13 (One UI 5), Android 14 (One UI 6), and Android 15 (One UI 7) — fulfilling its four-generation OS update promise with the arrival of One UI 8.
While this is the last major Android version the S21 FE will receive, users can still expect regular security patches and performance optimizations for some time. The device should also receive One UI 8.5 update sometime next year.
