Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra getting August 2025 security update

Samsung has started rolling out the August 2025 security update to the Galaxy S21 series, following its initial release for the Galaxy A56 earlier this month. The update is now live in South Korea and is expected to expand to more regions over the coming weeks.

The latest firmware versions for the Galaxy S21 lineup are G991NKSSAHYH5 for the Galaxy S21, G996NKSSAHYH5 for the Galaxy S21+, and G998NKSSAHYH5 for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It has a download size of around 290MB. The rollout is happening in phases, so not everyone will receive the update immediately.

  • Galaxy S21: G991NKSSAHYH5
  • Galaxy S21 Plus: G996NKSSAHYH5
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra: G998NKSSAHYH5

Since the rollout is gradual, you can manually check if the August 2025 security update is available for your device. Simply head to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If it’s not yet available, try checking again after a few days.

No One UI 8 for the Galaxy S21 series

Unfortunately, this is one of the final updates for the Galaxy S21 series when it comes to major software changes. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra won’t receive the upcoming One UI 8 update based on Android 16. These devices have already reached the end of their promised OS upgrade cycle.

However, the story is different for the Galaxy S21 FE. The fan edition model is still eligible for the One UI 8 update, which Samsung plans to release in September alongside the Galaxy S25 series.
