Samsung’s previous-generation foldables are now joining the security update cycle for the new year. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 have started receiving the January 2026 security patch, beginning with their release in the company’s home market of South Korea.

The update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 arrives with firmware version F946NKSSFZA1, while the package for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is tagged F731NKSS5FZA1 and has a download size of 385.52MB.

As is standard procedure, this initial rollout in South Korea signals that a broader global release is imminent, with users in other regions likely to receive the OTA (Over-the-Air) update within the next few days.

This update is focused exclusively on security enhancements. It incorporates the January 2026 security patch, which addresses a total of 55 vulnerabilities. According to Samsung’s security bulletin, these fixes include patches from Google, Samsung Semiconductor, and Samsung Mobile, with one flagged as critical and 28 as high-risk.

Owners of these 2023 foldables can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and install. The rollout is phased, so it may take a little time to reach all units.

While this update is a routine security maintenance release, a much more significant software upgrade is on the horizon for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. Both devices are eligible for the upcoming One UI 8.5 update, based on Android 16. This major version is expected to deliver a refreshed interface, enhanced customization options, and new features later this year, following its debut on the Galaxy S26 series.
