MediaTek announced 6nm Dimensity 1100 and 1200 SoC with Cortex-A78 CPU
Taiwanese chip manufacturer MediaTek has announced two new chipsets: Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200. These two are the company’s first chipsets fabricated on a 6nm process. Also, these are the first from MediaTek to use powerful Cortex-A78 cores. The Dimensity 1200 is more on the premium side whereas the Dimensity 1100 will power mid-range smartphones.
The Dimensity 1200 SoC is an octa-processor that consists of 1×Cortex-A78 clocked at 3.0GHz, 3×Cortex-A78 cores at 2.6GHz, and 4×Cotrex-A55 power-efficient cores at 2.0GHz.
Dimensity 1100 on the other hand, does not have a Cortex-A78 (3.0GHz) core. The 8 core consist of 4×Cortex-A78 running at 2.6GHz and the rest 4 are Cortex-A55 cores that run at 2.0GHz.
For comparison, the Cortex-A77 at 3.0GHz in Dimensity 1200 is nearly 20% faster than Cortex-A55 at 2.6GHz in Dimensity 1000+ SoC. The overall chipset performance increases by 22% and power-efficiency by 25%.
MediaTek says that Dimensity 1200 supports up to 200MP single camera and features a five-core HDR-ISP. The Dimensity 1100 supports up to 108MP camera resolution. Both the chipset can deliver 90Hz refresh rate with QHD panel. For FullHD+ display, Dimensity 1100 can reach up to 144Hz refresh rate and Dimensity 1200 up to 168Hz.

Xiaomi, Realme, Vivo and Oppo will be among the very first companies to launch phones with Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100 chipsets. As per the recent reports, Realme X9 Pro could be the first phone to feature Dimensity 1200 SoC.
