OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei reveals his future plans

OnePlus was founded by Carl Pei and Pete Lau in December 2013. Soon, the company gained quick recognition in the smartphone market because of aggressive marketing tactics applied by Carl Pei. Before OnePlus, Card Pei was a Managing Director at Oppo. Back in October 2020, he left OnePlus without revealing his future plans.

Now, Carl Pei has announced that he is working on audio related products which are coming sometime in 2021. He managed to gather a lineup of seed investors raising $7 million. Investors for this new audio-related startup includes some big names such as iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, Casey Neistat, PCH CEO Liam Casey, Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave, and Product Hunt CEO Josh Buckley.

In statement to Wired, Pei revealed that his new startup will have a head office located in London, although he didn’t reveal the startup name. His new company currently consists of less than 10 peoples, but Pei is actively recruiting. In the statement, Pei also revealed that he did not fall out with Lau. On this note, he said, “It was an amicable departure and we’re still in touch”.

He didn’t reveal any audio products, but he mentioned that this new company will have a broader focus than just headphones. He didn’t reveal any launch date for the new audio products, but are expected to be announced early in the next year.
