Qualcomm unveiled a new mid-range 5G chipset Snapdragon 690 as a part of Snapdragon 600 series. Qualcomm is making affordable 5G chipset for mid-range smartphone and this new chipset is also a part of it. The chipset is an 8nm chipset paired with the Snapdragon X51 modem which supports sub-6Hz networks.
Other than 5G connectivity, the new chipset brings some other cool features also. This includes 4K HDR Video recording at 30fps and enhancement to video recording. This feature will allow the device to play high-quality videos in lower bandwidth by enhancing moving parts of the video. The chipset also brings a new fifth generation AI engine called ARCSOFT. One component of the engine called as Hexagon Tensor Accelerator (HTA) makes real-time snapchat filters much smoother and less jittery.
The Snapdragon 690 chipset supports FHD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate. For the camera, this chipset supports up to 192MP resolution. It will also support Quick Charge 4+ and Wi-Fi 6 using Qualcomm FastConnect 6200 system.
Comparing to it’s predecessor (Snapdragon 675), the new chipset has 20% faster CPU speed and 60% faster graphics performance. In the near future, we can expect some devices from HMD, Motorola, LG, Sharp, TCL and Wingtech running the Snapdragon 690 chipset.
