On Wednesday, Reliance Industries held it’s 43rd annual general meeting through a virtual platform where the chairman and managing director, Mukesh Ambani made some big announcement. Mukesh Ambani announced regarding the partnering with Google to develop cheap 5G phones and also addressed JioGlass and JioMart. Now, let’s have a look on the Reliance AGM 2020 major highlights.
Starting with the most important part of Reliance AGM 2020, let’s talk about the Jio and Google partnership. As per the announcement, Google will invest Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.7 percent stake Jio platforms. Before Google, Reliance Jio made partnership with 13 big companies in the past 12 months which includes Facebook, Qualcomm, Intel and more.
The company has announced that it is working with Google to launch cheap 5G smartphones. For this purpose, Jio and Google together will develop a new and optimized version of Android OS. Currently, there is no information about the design, specification or launch date of the smartphones.
Jio 5G solution
Reliance Jio announced that it has designed and developed a complete 5G solution from the scratch. The trial will start as soon as the 5G spectrum is available and will be ready for field development next year. Initially the Jio 5G will be available for smartphones but later on it will be equipped with different products such as autonomous vehicle, 5G drones and more.
During the annual meeting, company announced a new product called as JioGlass which is a mixed reality handset. With JioGlass, users will be able to connect to others in 3D form in the virtual room. Kiran Thomas at the RIL AGM said, “The Jio Glass is at the cutting edge of technology that provides best-in-class Mixed Reality services to give users a truly meaningful immersive experience.”
Further he added, “io Glass is making teachers and students come together in 3D virtual rooms and conduct holographic classes through our Jio Mixed Reality cloud in real-time. With JioGlass, the traditional way of learning Geography will now be History.” The company did not reveal the pricing and availability of JioGlass.
The company announced JioTV Plus that brings OTT platforms, TV channels, apps and services together. JioTV Plus features content from over 12 most popular OTT players which includes Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, Zee5, SonyLIV and more.
Users can access these applications through the Jio App Store on the Set Top Box. Ambani Said, “Through Jio Developers program, any app developer can develop, launch and monetize their apps. Developers who wish to partner with Jio can visit https://developer.jio.com/ for details.”
JioMart will be working with WhatsApp
JioMart is an online grocery service offers in over 200 cities. Jio is working closely with WhatsApp to offer seamless and easy usage of the service. Isha Ambani said, “As an introductory offer customers will get Covid-19 kit with the first order.” Further she added, “JioMart and WhatsApp will be working closely to create growth opportunities for millions of Indian small merchants and enable customers seamlessly transact with kirana shops.”
