Samsung One UI 4.0 (Android 12) Update Tracker: Eligble Devices, New Features, and More
Android 11 has become an old thing now, and Android 12 is the new capitalizer. From its official launch back in October 2021, it is yet to get rolled out by various companies into their smartphones.
All the manufacturers started to upgrade their eigible phones with the latest version of android.
Samsung, the leading smartphone manufacturer, has introduced its One UI 4.0 custom user interface, which is based on Android 12. It has already been rolled out several smartphones and more devices will be added to Samsung’s Android 12 list, as per the roadmap released by the company, mentioned in the latter part of this article.
Compared to the One UI 3.1, the new One UI 4.0 brings loads of new features, more customization options, new privacy features, nifty design changes, and many more things. In this article, we have covered everything you need to know about the One UI 4.0.
One UI 4.0 Features
Samsung has made these changes to make the new interface smoother and faster. You can now apply the dark theme to the wallpapers to maintain consistency when the device is running on a dark theme.
The widget section is now stacked vertically, inspired by the Android 12’s widget alignment.
Also, you will get a new Add media to home page option to choose between adding a Google discover page or Samsung Free in the home screen settings.
Based on the Android 12 feature, Samsung has introduced color themes in UI 4.0 in which the OS extracts color patterns from th wallpaper itself.
However, it is still in the Beta stage and doesn’t act as effectively as you would see in Android 12.
Color theme would be present in the Wallpaper section, which you would get by pressing long on the home screen.
New Privacy Features
Samsung is trying to incorporate its One UI 4.0 with all the new privacy features present in the Android 12.
First, there is a new permission history under the privacy settings. The user could see app usage permissions, minimum by the last 24 hours and maximum by the previous seven days for sensitive apps like Camera, Microphone, and Location.
Based on these sensitive permissions, this One UI 4.0 also got the same privacy indicators as Android 12. If an app tries to access these apps, users will immediately see an indicator in the top-right corner of the screen.
Second, there will be toggle buttons for Camera and Microphone access under these privacy settings. Once turned off, all apps that have access to these permissions will get their clearances revoked.
You will find the same toggles in the quick settings as well.
Third, users will now get the authority to give an approximate location to apps. Its toggle is available for each app.
Same as in Android 12, the One UI 4.0 will also have a new feature of Extra Dim, where users can lower the screen brightness even beyond the minimum screen brightness.
This feature is available in the One UI accessibility settings, where users can turn it on. You can also toggle it in the quick settings menu.
Some apps do not support the split-screen mode or pop-up window while using them. To resolve this, One UI 4.0 will provide the force multi-window option, which will force such apps to support these screen modes.
In this One UI 4.0, this feature will use external storage as the virtual RAM to improve overall app performance. This feature will be incorporated in some Galaxy series smartphones and will later be included in more devices.
Camera and Gallery
A few interesting changes are made in both Camera and Gallery apps:-
Users can hold the shutter button to start recording a video while in Photo mode and can drag their finger to the lock button to keep recording.
While scanning a document, users can now zoom in to edit it.
Similar to Google Photos, users can now revert an image in the gallery app to its original version even after saving it.
Also, date, time, and location editing are possible now.
Lock screen and Always-On-Display
Talking about the lock screen first, the One UI4.0 brings some modifications to it.
New media controls are in the scene; users can now change the audio output right from the lock screen. You will see customized controls depending on the music app.
Users can add a recorder widget to the lock screen to create voice memos while phone is locked up.
Coming to Always-On-Display or AOD, you can set it to ‘only awake’ when you receive a notification.
Samsung will bring a new Samsung Keyboard in the One UI4.0 update. It will allow users to get Emojis, GIFs, and stickers directly from the keyboard with a single button. Users can also combine two emojis, could add animation with the keyboard.
It will also bring a new writing assistant powered by Grammarly.
