One UI 8.5 makes lock screen smarter with upgrades to adaptive clock

The cool Adaptive Clock feature is getting even better and smarter in One UI 8.5, which should make editing the lock screen more enjoyable. The One UI 8.5 build for the Galaxy S25 Ultra reveals that the adaptive lock screen clock style and font can now adapt to almost any object in the background. This little upgrade makes a notable change to the lock screen.

One UI 8.5 lock screen gets smarter with adaptive clock upgrades

According to reliable Samsung insider Ice Universe, One UI 8.5’s internal builds expand the Adaptive Clock’s functionality far beyond its original limitations. While the version in One UI 8 only recognized people and pets in wallpapers (mainly humans, cats, and dogs), the new upgrade can now adapt its style and font to almost any object featured in the background.

That means whether your wallpaper shows an airplane, sunflower, lotus, hot air balloon, or even a boat, the Adaptive Clock will intelligently adjust its color, font, and design to match the subject — creating a more cohesive and personalized lock screen look.

Watch it in action:

The leaked demo video above showcases how this upgraded Adaptive Clock reacts dynamically to various wallpapers. Not only does it identify more types of subjects, but the clock also now features a frosted glass design that blends better with the background. It even mimics the wallpaper’s dominant colors, producing a more polished and aesthetically pleasing visual effect.

This expansion makes the feature feel smarter and more contextually aware — a small but thoughtful upgrade that shows Samsung’s continued focus on personalization and visual refinement.

While the Adaptive Clock was introduced as one of the coolest additions in One UI 8, it remains exclusive to premium Galaxy models for the time being. However, there’s growing speculation that Samsung might make it more widely available with One UI 8.5, similar to how the company eventually expanded the Now Bar feature to more devices.

Samsung is still actively developing One UI 8.5, with ongoing optimizations. The update is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series early next year, with a broader rollout to older Galaxy phones likely following in the second quarter of 2026.

If this feature is anything to go by, One UI 8.5 looks set to further refine Samsung’s interface with smarter, more adaptive design touches that make Galaxy phones feel more dynamic than ever.
