Google officially announced Android 17 a few days ago, and Samsung has wasted no time getting started on One UI 9. New software builds have appeared on Samsung’s test servers, confirming that development is already underway for the company’s next major update.
The first device spotted running One UI 9 is the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which makes sense given Samsung’s recent strategy. Starting last year with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, Samsung began launching its foldables with the latest One UI version right out of the box. The Galaxy S25 series received One UI 8 through an OTA update shortly after.
This year should follow the same pattern, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 expected to debut One UI 9 at Samsung’s next Unpacked event, likely in July. Samsung hasn’t shared any official timeline yet, but Google’s Android 17 roadmap gives us some clues.
Android 17: What to expect
Google released Android 17 Beta 1 on February 13, marking a shift from the traditional developer preview model to a continuous canary channel. This means Google will keep releasing Android 17 updates throughout 2026 with ongoing improvements.
The update focuses heavily on privacy, security, and performance enhancements. There are also notable upgrades to camera and media features, along with improvements to connectivity and smart device integration.

According to Google’s official schedule, beta releases will continue from February through April 2026, with the final stable release expected sometime in Q2 2026. However, since Google is adopting a continuous release model this year, the pre-launch development cycle could be shorter than previous Android versions.
If everything stays on track, Samsung could launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with One UI 9 as early as July 2026. Older Galaxy devices would likely start receiving the Android 17-based One UI 9 update in late Q3 or Q4 2026.
We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge about One UI 9’s features and rollout timeline.
