Samsung is gearing up for its next mid-cycle software upgrade — One UI 8.5. While the Android 16-based One UI 8 rollout is still underway, signs suggest that Samsung is already working on the next version. And if you’re wondering whether your Galaxy phone or tablet will be eligible, we’ve got a good idea of what to expect.
Although Samsung hasn’t formally announced One UI 8.5 yet, its references have been spotted on the early One UI 8 builds, and moderators on official forums have acknowledged the update. That’s more than enough proof that development is already in motion.
One UI 8.5 update: what we know so far
Instead of going with One UI 8.1 or 8.1.1, Samsung is bringing back its old naming convention and will call the update One UI 8.5—just like it did years ago with One UI 2.5. This suggests the company is treating it as a slightly bigger update than usual maintenance releases.
We’re not expecting major design overhauls, but One UI 8.5 could bring more Galaxy AI features, improved system apps, and refinements to existing features. It will likely debut with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026, and a wider rollout will follow soon after.

This list is based on the assumption that every device getting One UI 8 will also be updated to One UI 8.5. If Samsung makes any changes, we’ll update the list accordingly.
Samsung seems to be moving fast this year. After skipping One UI 7.1 and 7.1.1 due to delays, it looks like the company is on track to deliver a meaningful mid-cycle update with One UI 8.5. The stable release may be several months away, but eligible users can rest assured knowing they’re likely covered.
We’ll continue tracking One UI 8.5 development, and as more info comes in — like beta rollout dates or new features — you’ll find all the updates here.
