Samsung drops software support for four Galaxy phones

Samsung may be the king of Android updates right now, but even the best eventually have to move on. As part of its routine cleanup, Samsung has now quietly removed four Galaxy phones from its software support list — meaning no more security patches, no bug fixes, and definitely no Android upgrades.

If your Galaxy phone is a few years old, it might be time to check if you’ve made the cut—or if your device is officially stuck in time.

  • Galaxy M32
  • Galaxy M42 5G

All four of these phones launched in 2021 and were guaranteed two Android upgrades and four years of security updates. They got Android 13 a while back, and now that the support window has officially closed, they won’t receive any more security updates either.

What does this mean for you and what should you do?

If you’re still rocking one of these phones, don’t worry — it will continue to function normally. But without future patches, you could be exposed to newly discovered security threats, especially if you use your phone for banking, email, or storing sensitive information.

The good news? Samsung’s software support has improved dramatically. The latest Galaxy S25 and S24 series come with up to seven years of software updates — something that was unheard of in the Android world just a few years ago.

Even budget models now benefit from Samsung’s improved update strategy, with many promising up to six years of updates.
