Samsung rolled out a new software update for the Galaxy S26 Ultra in China on March 20, only to halt the rollout just a few hours later. The update is still not back online, and Samsung hasn’t said a word about why it was pulled.
According to Ice Universe on X, the update carried firmware version S9480ZCU1AZCG and weighed in at roughly 983MB. The changelog, translated from Chinese, described it as a system stability and reliability improvement. Nothing flashy on the surface, which makes the sudden rollback all the more puzzling. Samsung typically suspends updates mid-rollout when users start reporting issues after installation, though no specific complaints have surfaced publicly in this case.

The Galaxy S26 series received its first software update shortly after launch, bringing the February 2026 security patch. That update also quietly introduced the Inactivity Restart feature, which wasn’t even mentioned in the official changelog. A March security patch update was expected later this month, but that one hasn’t arrived yet. It’s unclear whether the halted update in China was an early push of the March patch or something else entirely.
This is kind of an unusual situation. A nearly 1GB update that gets pulled within hours, with no explanation from Samsung, leaves a lot of room for speculation. It’s possible the build had bugs that only showed up after release, or maybe it was pushed to the wrong region or devices by mistake. Either way, Galaxy S26 Ultra owners in China will have to wait a bit longer before that update reappears, assuming Samsung reissues it at all.
On a separate note, bigger things are already in the works for the Galaxy S26. Samsung has begun development on One UI 9, its Android 17-based update, and official firmware for the S26 series running One UI 9.0 has already been spotted. That’s still months away, but it’s a sign that Samsung is moving quickly on the next major upgrade cycle.
We’ll keep you updated as more details come in.
