Samsung releases January 2026 security update for Galaxy A56, A55

Samsung has begun distributing the first security update of 2026 to its popular mid-range smartphones, the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A56. This routine update brings the January 2026 security patch, focusing solely on bolstering device security without introducing new features or visual changes.

The rollout is underway in specific regions. For the Galaxy A55, the update is currently available in Europe, identified by firmware version A556BXXSCCZA1 for the model SM-A556B. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A56 is receiving the patch first in South Korea, where it is marketed as the Galaxy Quantum 6, with build number A566SKSS4BZA2. The update should expand to other global markets in the coming days and weeks.

This stability-focused release addresses a significant number of security vulnerabilities. The patch incorporates fixes for 55 Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) and Samsung Vulnerability Exposures (SVE) items. These repairs target flaws across both the underlying Android OS and Samsung’s software layer, enhancing protection against potential threats.

If you own a Galaxy A55 or A56 and haven’t received a notification yet, you can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and install. As with all phased rollouts, it may take a few days for the OTA package to reach all devices.

Looking ahead, both the Galaxy A55 and A56 are slated to receive the more substantial One UI 8.5 update later this year. Based on Android 16, One UI 8.5 is currently in beta testing and is expected to make its stable debut with the Galaxy S26 series, which is rumored to launch in February. A wider rollout to existing devices like the A55 and A56 will likely follow in the subsequent months, bringing a host of new interface refinements and features.
