Samsung’s mid-range strategy is paying off in a big way. While premium flagships usually get most of the spotlight, the company’s affordable and mid-tier Galaxy A lineup is the real engine behind its global smartphone success this year. Data from Counterpoint Research reveals that Samsung secured five spots in the top 10 best-selling smartphones list for Q3 2025—an impressive feat driven almost entirely by the A-series.

Galaxy A devices take over the Q3 2025 charts
According to the report, Samsung’s Galaxy A16 5G, Galaxy A06, Galaxy A36, Galaxy A56, and Galaxy A16 4G ranked 5th through 9th on the global bestseller chart. The remaining positions were dominated by Apple’s iPhone 16 family, including the newly released iPhone 17 Pro Max, highlighting just how strong the competition is at the top end of the market.
The standout performer was the Galaxy A16 5G, which became the best-selling Android smartphone of the quarter. Its strong momentum is attributed to rising global demand for affordable 5G phones, especially in price-sensitive regions where users are upgrading from older 4G devices.
Other mid-range models—particularly the A36 and A56—also contributed significantly. Samsung brought select Galaxy AI features such as Best Face and Nightography to these models, helping bridge the experience gap between mid-range and flagship devices. Faster charging speeds and extended software support further strengthened their appeal, making them feel more “flagship-like” without the premium price tag.
LTE models still thriving in emerging markets
Despite the shift toward 5G, Samsung’s LTE devices continue to see substantial demand. The Galaxy A06 and A16 4G performed especially well in Latin America and MEA, where LTE remains dominant and affordability is key. In these regions, the two models accounted for over half of their global sales volumes, underscoring the importance of entry-level devices in Samsung’s broader market strategy.
Samsung’s newer Galaxy A17 also enjoyed strong sales during the quarter, thanks in part to festive season promotions in major markets. This likely ate into demand for the A16 series, contributing to shifts in the rankings.
No Galaxy S25 Ultra this time — but there’s context
Interestingly, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which had been a top-10 regular in Q1 and Q2, dropped off the Q3 list. This isn’t necessarily a sign of waning demand; rather, it aligns with typical seasonal behavior. Consumers often delay flagship purchases ahead of new launches, and with the Galaxy S26 series expected soon, some buyers likely decided to hold off.
If trends repeat, Samsung’s premium lineup may reclaim a spot on the charts in Q1 2026, especially as new AI and camera upgrades debut with the S26 generation.
The Q3 2025 rankings make one thing clear: while Samsung’s flagship releases grab headlines, the Galaxy A-series is the true backbone of the company’s global smartphone dominance. From budget-friendly LTE models to feature-packed mid-rangers with Galaxy AI enhancements, Samsung has crafted a lineup that resonates across markets and price tiers.
With strong sales momentum and improved software commitments extending the life of mid-range devices, Samsung’s A-series looks positioned to remain a major force heading into 2026.
