Galaxy Z TriFold One UI 8.5 stable update is now live

Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold has joined the One UI 8.5 rollout, picking up the update alongside a wave of 2025 flagship devices. It’s a notable moment for what is arguably Samsung’s most unconventional phone to date.

The Z TriFold originally shipped with Android 16-based One UI 8. One UI 8.5 builds on that with a handful of changes that feel particularly well-suited to a triple-fold form factor. The Quick Panel has gotten deeper customization options, which matters on a device where each screen zone can essentially function as its own workspace. Samsung’s UI tweaks, including bottom-placed search bars and cleaner navigation icons, also make one-handed use more manageable across different folded configurations.

Galaxy AI is playing a bigger role with this update too. Smarter task prediction, AI-generated summaries, and improved photo editing tools are all part of the package. On a tri-fold display, that could translate to some genuinely useful multitasking scenarios, think editing on one panel while AI suggestions appear on another. Whether users will actually see that kind of experience in practice depends on how well Samsung has optimized things for the hardware.

Core apps like Gallery, Phone, and Clock have received visual refreshes with cleaner layouts and icon-driven navigation. Privacy protections for shared images have also been tightened, along with broader cross-device connectivity improvements.

If you own one of the few Z TriFold units out there, the update should be available through Settings > Software Update.
