Galaxy Z Fold 7 receives a new update in the US, but it’s not One UI 8.5

Galaxy Z Fold 7 update

Samsung is pushing a second software update to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the US this month, and it arrives right before One UI 8.5 is expected to land on the device.

The update carries firmware version F966USQS9AZD3 and is currently rolling out to carrier-locked units. Like the first April update, the changelog simply lists security fixes. That “S” in the build number is a useful tell here — it typically signals no user-facing changes. So don’t expect anything flashy when this one lands on your device.

That said, the Fold 7 already picked up the April 2026 security patch with its earlier update this month. So what’s actually in this one? Samsung hasn’t said, but it’s likely some carrier or region-specific patches and backend optimizations. A similar situation played out last month, when carrier-locked Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S25 units received a comparable second release with no clear explanation.

If you’re on a carrier-locked Fold 7 in the US, it’s worth installing regardless. Head to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check. The update may not reach other regions.

The more interesting news for Fold 7 owners is what comes next. One UI 8.5 is on its way, and Samsung has already pushed the stable build to beta testers in Korea. The US rollout should follow within the coming days. For the Fold 7, this is a fairly significant moment — One UI 8.5 is the first major feature update the device has received since it launched with One UI 8. The Android version itself stays at Android 16, but the update brings a solid batch of new features and improvements on top of that base.

Worth keeping in mind: this doesn’t count as one of the Fold 7’s major OS upgrades. Samsung’s support promise for the device extends to seven generations of Android and One UI updates, which takes it all the way to Android 23 and One UI 15.
