Galaxy S24 series gets stable One UI 8.5 update in the US

Samsung Galaxy S24 series

The Galaxy S24 series is picking up the stable One UI 8.5 update in the United States. Just four days after Samsung pushed the update in South Korea, it’s now reportedly available for US users, starting with carrier-locked models on Verizon.

The update carries firmware version S92xUSQU5DZDR and is a hefty download at over 4GB. It covers all three phones in the lineup: the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Carrier-unlocked models should follow shortly, though Samsung hasn’t specified an exact timeline for that.

What’s new in One UI 8.5 for Galaxy S24?

This isn’t a typical maintenance update. One UI 8.5 is a significant feature drop, and the full changelog is quite extensive. On the surface, the most visible changes include a more customizable Quick Panel and a refreshed UI design language across stock One UI apps, which now feature a compact tab bar layout. The lock screen also gets more flexibility with additional clock font styles and placement options.

Galaxy AI features see meaningful improvements too, and there’s a practical addition in Quick Share, which now supports AirDrop connectivity. That makes file sharing between Galaxy and Apple devices considerably less painful. For those curious about whether their other Galaxy devices will get the same update, here’s a list of One UI 8.5 eligible devices.

If you’re on Verizon with a Galaxy S24, S24+, or S24 Ultra, the update may already be waiting for you. Head to Settings, tap Software update, and hit Check for updates. Make sure your phone has at least 30% battery before you start the installation. The download is over 4GB, so connecting to Wi-Fi is a good idea too.

If the update isn’t showing up yet, don’t worry. Rollouts like this are staged, so it’ll reach more devices and carriers over the coming days. You can check when your specific Galaxy model is expected to receive One UI 8.5 here.
