ZTE Axon 20 5G was launched last year as the world’s first under-display camera phone, later joined by Samsung and Xiaomi with the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and Xiaomi Mix 4. Another Chinese smartphone maker, Realme, is already in the works to launch its first under-display camera phone. The company has now filed a patent for a smartphone, which has no cutout or notch for the selfie camera. It means that this could be Realme’s first phone to feature an under-display selfie camera.
You might be thinking that the phone could possibly have a pop-up-style selfie camera. It won’t be the case as Xu Qi Chase, Realme’s Vice President has already made it clear that Realme phones don’t come with a pop-up selfie camera. So, the Realme device in the patent images indeed has an under-display selfie camera.

The patent images reveal that the phone has a rectangular camera module on the back housing three sensors and an LED flash. Removing the notch or punch-hole cutout gives a high screen-to-body ratio, and the same is the case with this Realme phone. It has a power button on the right side and volume buttons on the left. The bottom part has cutouts for a USB Type-C port and a sim tray. It does not have a cutout for the 3.5mm headphone jack.
In September, Xu Qi Chase posted an image of an unknown smartphone (uploaded at the beginning of this post), which has no notch or cutout for the selfie camera. So, it’s most likely going to be the first under-display selfie camera phone from Realme. Apart from Realme, some other Chinese companies Honor, Oppo, and Vivo are also said to be working on the under-display selfie camera technology for smartphones.
