Samsung is already testing One UI 9 on these Galaxy devices

Samsung One UI 9 internal testing

Samsung hasn’t even pushed the stable One UI 8.5 update yet, but internal testing for One UI 9 is already in full swing. Several Galaxy devices have already appeared running test builds of Android 17-based One UI 9 on Samsung’s internal servers, giving us our first look at which devices are in line for the next major update.

Which devices are being tested?

The list so far includes a mix of current flagships and upcoming hardware. On the S series side, the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra have all shown up with One UI 9 test builds. That’s not surprising given Samsung’s track record of rolling out major updates through its flagship lineup first.

Foldables are also well-represented. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are already in testing, joined by three unreleased devices: the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Flip 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. On the tablet front, the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra has appeared in test builds as well, though it hasn’t launched yet either.

  • Galaxy Z Flip 8 (unreleased)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide (unreleased)

  • Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra (unreleased)

More Galaxy devices, including older flagships, mid-rangers, and tablets, are expected to enter testing as Samsung gets closer to the rollout window.

When could One UI 9 arrive?

The One UI 9 beta program could kick off sometime around June or July, starting with the Galaxy S26 series. The stable release is expected to debut alongside Samsung’s next-gen foldables at the next Unpacked event, likely in late July. That lines up with Samsung’s pattern from last year, where the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 launched with the latest version of One UI out of the box.

What’s actually changing in One UI 9?

Don’t expect a sweeping redesign here. One UI 9 appears focused on refinement rather than reinvention, with improvements to readability, animation smoothness, and overall visual cleanliness. It’s a more simplified experience compared to what came before. One new feature that’s been mentioned is Tap to Share, which would allow quick file transfers between devices, working somewhat like AirDrop. That said, details are still thin at this stage.

It’s also worth noting that Samsung still has One UI 8.5 to wrap up. The stable One UI 8.5 rollout for the Galaxy S25 series is expected before the foldables land, so Samsung has a reasonably tight schedule to manage on both fronts. For older Galaxy owners curious about One UI 8.5 eligibility, that list is already confirmed.

One UI 9 is still early in development, and the device list will grow. We’ll keep you updated as more test builds surface and Samsung’s timeline becomes clearer.
