Galaxy A16 5G, A17 5G, and A26 are getting stable One UI 8.5 before some flagships

Samsung’s One UI 8.5 rollout has taken a somewhat unexpected turn. The stable update is now reaching the Galaxy A16 5G, Galaxy A17 5G, and Galaxy A26, while devices like the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy A55 are still in the queue. The rollout is staggered across regions and carriers, so not everyone will see it at the same time.

Mid-range devices aren’t usually first in line for Samsung’s major software updates. The typical pecking order starts with the flagship S-series, then premium A-series models, before trickling down to budget and mid-range hardware. Seeing the A16 5G, A17 5G, and A26 land One UI 8.5 before some higher-end Galaxy phones breaks that pattern in a noticeable way.

It’s probably less of a deliberate strategy and more of a reflection of how Samsung handles testing and certification internally. Chipset variations across regions can slow things down, particularly for older flagships where optimization across multiple hardware configurations takes more time. The One UI 8.5 stable update is already available for a number of Galaxy devices, but the sequence hasn’t always followed what users expect.

For Galaxy S22 owners or those still waiting on the Galaxy A55, it’s understandably frustrating. Those are devices that cost more and sit higher in Samsung’s lineup, so waiting while mid-range models get the update first isn’t a great look. Samsung hasn’t explained the sequencing, and it likely won’t.

For users of the A16 5G, A17 5G, and A26, the update brings the improvements that come with One UI 8.5, including better day-to-day responsiveness and general software refinements. To check if it’s available on your device, head to Settings > Software Update > Download and install.
