One UI 6.1 Without Galaxy AI Smartness

Samsung’s One UI 6.1 brings an improved Single Take mode, a new long-exposure feature, colonizing black and white images, cross-device video editing using the Studio editing app, and HDR video support in social apps.

One UI 6.1 also lets you pick a desired frame of a Motion Photo and use AI upscaling to turn it into a 12MP representative photo.

Sadly, Samsung won’t bring the Galaxy AI features to the Galaxy S22 series.

Galaxy S22 Series Software Update Policy

Samsung Galaxy S22 phones will get OS updates until Android 16. Ahead of the next Android update, the brand will release One UI 6.1 update to the S22 series.

Although One UI 6.1 is pretty much guaranteed for the Galaxy S22 series, it’s unclear if these devices will get any of the Galaxy AI features from the S24 series. We’ll keep you posted on this in the next section.

[February 27, 2024]: The February 2024 security update for the Galaxy S22 series is now rolling out in India. It comes with the firmware version S90xEXXS7DXB5 and has a download size of around 400MB.

[February 25, 2024]: Samsung Community moderator confirms that the smooth lens switching function from the Galaxy S24 Ultra isn’t coming to the Galaxy S22 series, sadly. It’s only supported on that phone, S24 Ultra.

[February 19, 2024]: The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra owners in the US and Canada are now getting the February 2024 security patch. The update is rolling out to carrier-locked models in the US.

It seems users in South Korea will have to wait a little longer to get the February update. According to the community moderator, the Galaxy S21 series is under final testing and will take several more days to complete.

[February 15, 2024]: The February 2024 security patch update begins rolling out to the Galaxy S22 series. It means the One UI 6.1 update may start rolling out anytime soon.

The February 2024 security patch is currently rolling out in Europe and should expand to more markets in the coming days.

[January 29, 2024]: A new update is rolling out to the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra models in Europe. It’s a camera improvement update, and hence, don’t expect to see major changes.

[January 24, 2024]: A Samsung Community moderator has revealed that One UI 6.1 update will come to the Galaxy S22 series after the February 2024 security patch.

He also revealed that the February security patch will be distributed to the S22 phones between mid-February to last-February.

[January 23, 2024]: A Samsung executive told Tech Radar, “For now, we’re limiting Galaxy AI to last-gen devices.” It means that the Galaxy S22 series won’t get Galaxy AI features – at least not anytime soon. However, the S22 phones are eligible for the One UI 6.1 update.

[January 18, 2024]: Samsung has revealed a list of devices that would initially get the One UI 6.1 update packed with Galaxy AI features. And sadly, there’s no mention of Galaxy S22 phones.

Hopefully, Samsung will bring AI features to more devices, including the S22 series, later this year.

[January 17, 2024]: During the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event, Samsung announced that it will release the Galaxy AI features to select premium Galaxy devices. AI features will come with the One UI 6.1 update.

Sadly, Samsung didn’t reveal those device names. Although One UI 6.1 is confirmed for the S22 phones, it’s unclear if these devices will get the Galaxy AI features.

[January 11, 2024]: Samsung is testing the One UI 6.1 build on the Indian variants of the Galaxy S22 phones. It has been spotted on the server with the build version S908EXXU7EXA4.

[January 9, 2024]: One UI 6.1 will land on the Galaxy S22 series, as the One UI 6.1 test build has been spotted on the server with build version S908NKSU3ZXA3.

  1. It’s a shame the Samsung PR and management are so bad. My corporate and business clients buy between 100 and 150 Samsung high end handsets each year. As from July 1 they want me to switch back to Apple. All they want is service.
