Galaxy S22 Series Software Update Policy

Samsung released the Galaxy S22 phones with Android 12 out of the box. The company has promised to release four OS updates to these devices. So, they will get two more OS updates – Android 15 and Android 16.

Before the Android 15 update hits these devices, Samsung will bring the One UI 6.1 update with the Galaxy AI magic.

• Galaxy S22+: S906EXXU8EXE1
• Galaxy S22 Ultra: S908EXXU8EXE1

[May 14, 2024]: The One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra is now rolling out in India and Canada. It brings the exciting AI features that you’ve been waiting to test. It’s a major update with a download size of over 2GB. Hence, ensure a stable connection before hitting the download button.

[May 11, 2024]: The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are now getting the One UI 6.1 in the US. It brings exciting Galaxy AI features. Check if the update is available to download and install from the software update section.

[May 10, 2024]: (update-1) Almost a week later, One UI 6.1 rollout resumes for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. It’s happening in Korea, but I’m expecting a wider rollout in the coming days if no critical bugs are found in the latest build.

(update-2) The One UI 6.1 update is already rolling out outside Korea for the Galaxy S22 series. It’s now live in Europe. If you belong to the same region and have a Galaxy S22 unit, check if the update is ready to download and install.

[May 3, 2024]: Samsung has paused the One UI 6.1 update rollout for the Galaxy S22 series, as per a reliable Samsung tipster. While there’s no official confirmation on the same, the tipster claims that the build number has also been reverted to One UI 6.0.

The issue with the lock screen is the reason for this paused rollout. It means that users will have a little longer to get the update.

[May 2, 2024]: Finally! One UI 6.1 update is rolling out for the Galaxy S22 series with Galaxy AI features. Currently, the update is live in Korea, but it should expand to more countries in the coming days. The update has a download size of around 3.1GB.

The One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy S22 series is rolling out with the following firmware version in Korea:

• Galaxy S22: S908NKSU3EXDC
• Galaxy S22+: S906NKSU3EXDC 
• Galaxy S22 Ultra: S901NKSU3EXDC 

[April 15, 2024]: Big News! Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S22 series will get Galaxy AI features with the One UI 6.1 update. (source)

[April 4, 2024]: A new One UI 6.1 test build for the Galaxy S22 has been spotted on the server. It means that Samsung is regularly testing fresh One UI 6.1 builds on the S22. While it doesn’t give much details, it suggests that the update could be released soon, probably this month.

[March 30, 2024]: A Canadian network carrier, Rogers, has released its OS upgrade schedule. According to this, the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra will get a new update on April 10. The OS upgrade schedule reveals that the update includes the March 2024 security patch. However, it might also include One UI 6.1.

[March 27, 2024]: One UI 6.1 rollout begins today, starting with Galaxy S23. Initially, it will roll out to last-generation Galaxy devices before it starts rolling out to the Galaxy S22 series.

[March 20, 2024]: (Update #1) Big news for Galaxy S22 series users! Samsung might bring Galaxy AI features to this device.

During Samsung’s 55th annual general shareholders meeting held earlier today, the company’s MX CEO TM Roh said he is reviewing if Galaxy AI features can be brought to older phones, including the Galaxy S22.

This doesn’t mean Galaxy AI features are coming to the Galaxy S22 for sure, but at least there’s some spike of hope. Keep checking this update tracker for the latest developments.

(Update #2) Samsung has released the March 2024 security patch for the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra models in India.

[March 16, 2024]: The March security update for the Galaxy S22 series is now available in more countries, including Austria, Caucasus Countries, Croatia, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the UK.

[March 12, 2024]: Verizon is pushing a new update to Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra users in the US that installs the March 2024 security patch to improve device security and privacy.

[March 9, 2024]: The Galaxy S22 series moves a step closer to its One UI 6.1 release as a new test build goes live on the server. The latest build has been spotted with the firmware version S90xUSQU4EXC5.

Although the latest build doesn’t reveal anything, it suggests that Samsung is actively working to bring One UI 6.1 to the Galaxy S22 series.

[March 1, 2024]: Samsung brings the February security patch to the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra users in Australia, Latin America, and more Asian countries, including Nepal and Sri Lanka.

[February 27, 2024]: The February 2024 security update for the Galaxy S22 series is now rolling out in India. It comes with the firmware version S90xEXXS7DXB5 and has a download size of around 400MB.

[February 25, 2024]: Samsung Community moderator confirms that the smooth lens switching function from the Galaxy S24 Ultra isn’t coming to the Galaxy S22 series, sadly. It’s only supported on that phone, S24 Ultra.

[February 21, 2024]: Samsung has now officially confirmed that One UI 6.1 will start rolling out in late March 2024. Sadly, this rollout timeline is for devices that are eligible for Galaxy AI, which includes the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series.

Samsung didn’t announce when the next One UI upgrade will be available for older devices that won’t get Galaxy AI.

[February 19, 2024]: The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra owners in the US and Canada are now getting the February 2024 security patch. The update is rolling out to carrier-locked models in the US.

It seems users in South Korea will have to wait a little longer to get the February update. According to the community moderator, the Galaxy S21 series is under final testing and will take several more days to complete.

[February 15, 2024]: The February 2024 security patch update begins rolling out to the Galaxy S22 series. It means the One UI 6.1 update may start rolling out anytime soon.

The February 2024 security patch is currently rolling out in Europe and should expand to more markets in the coming days.

[January 29, 2024]: A new update is rolling out to the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra models in Europe. It’s a camera improvement update, and hence, don’t expect to see major changes.

[January 24, 2024]: A Samsung Community moderator has revealed that One UI 6.1 update will come to the Galaxy S22 series after the February 2024 security patch.

He also revealed that the February security patch will be distributed to the S22 phones between mid-February to last-February.

[January 23, 2024]: A Samsung executive told Tech Radar, “For now, we’re limiting Galaxy AI to last-gen devices.” It means that the Galaxy S22 series won’t get Galaxy AI features – at least not anytime soon. However, the S22 phones are eligible for the One UI 6.1 update.

[January 18, 2024]: Samsung has revealed a list of devices that would initially get the One UI 6.1 update packed with Galaxy AI features. And sadly, there’s no mention of Galaxy S22 phones.

Hopefully, Samsung will bring AI features to more devices, including the S22 series, later this year.

[January 17, 2024]: During the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event, Samsung announced that it will release the Galaxy AI features to select premium Galaxy devices. AI features will come with the One UI 6.1 update.

Sadly, Samsung didn’t reveal those device names. Although One UI 6.1 is confirmed for the S22 phones, it’s unclear if these devices will get the Galaxy AI features.

[January 11, 2024]: Samsung is testing the One UI 6.1 build on the Indian variants of the Galaxy S22 phones. It has been spotted on the server with the build version S908EXXU7EXA4.

[January 9, 2024]: One UI 6.1 will land on the Galaxy S22 series, as the One UI 6.1 test build has been spotted on the server with build version S908NKSU3ZXA3.
